Montgomery Author Launches First Book and Hosts Children’s Career Fair

MONTGOMERY – Self-published author Jonelle McCollough launched her faith-based children’s book, “The Seed to Be,” today during a book signing event at the Shoppes at EastChase. The book focuses on planting a seed in the minds of child readers to encourage purposeful education and career, while exposing them to traditional and non-traditional jobs.

The book launch was coupled with a children’s career fair to provide kids with the opportunity to engage with professionals of various careers, ranging from a pilot and a nurse to a police officer and two farmers.

“When I became a mother, I became committed to laying a solid foundation for my family both spiritually and educationally. I stepped out on faith and decided to write ‘The Seed to Be’ because I want to encourage all children to start thinking about their future careers at an early age,” McCollough said. “I hope that this event inspires not only the kids that attended, but their parents to continue supplying them with the essentials they need to grow into those professionals they dream of becoming.”

Dr. Angela Palmer, a professor at Troy University and one of the career fair professionals, said, “‘The Seed to Be’ is so impactful for the children because it familiarizes kids with the concept of attending school with a purpose to be something, and it allows them to become acquainted with a variety of career fields. I’m so thrilled I was invited to share my passion for education with these little ones.”

McCollough is working toward planting good seeds among the youth, especially in her own community. She recently donated a copy of the book to all the Montgomery public libraries.

“It’s good to see children in the community interacting with professional people who can inspire and mentor them toward a bright future,” said Tanisha Nettles, a book supporter and mother of two. “I’m glad that I was able to bring my children out today for this inspiring event.”

Since January, when the book was published, “The Seed to Be” has landed in the hands of over 200 children in cities across the United States.
